Hypnotherapy for Phobias and Fears
Do you have a fear of something which, rationally, you know cannot harm you? Consciously you may not be able to control your body's reaction to the trigger. It might be an automatic, unconscious response. Hypnotherapy is ideally suited to help, since it can make changes at an unconscious level.
Is fear limiting the things you can do because you feel you have to avoid going out, flying, getting in a lift etc? In some instances, it is normal and natural to fear danger and the body's fight or flight response is entirely appropriate. It is a survival mechanism. Where the body continues to produce excessive amounts of adrenaline even when there is no danger present, so that even thinking about the phobic object causes feelings of fear, this may become a problem needing treatment.
Is fear preventing you from living your life in a fulfilling and satisfying way? Hypnotherapy can help you to relax, change habits of being fearful into feeling calm and in control.
It is impossible to be anxious and relaxed at the same time, so the thing causing your fear is paired with deep muscle relaxation. If you have a phobia or anxiety you will first be taught deep muscle relaxation.
Fear produces changes in the body, breathing becomes shallower and faster, the heart beats faster, the bladder and bowel become more active etc. The body is producing the fight or flight response, glands are secreting noradrenaline which produces increased heart rate, increased blood pressure, dilation of pupils, dilation of air passages in the lungs and narrowing of blood vessels in non-essential organs and hydrocortisone which pumps the muscles up. All of which is appropriate in a life or death situation but not as part of normal life. Suggestions of heaviness and warmth can induce muscle relaxation and vasodilation. These can help the body to reduce and eventually stop the fight or flight response.
