How Hypnotherapy Works

How Do Hypnotherapy Sessions Work?

I tailor my approach to your individual needs.

Individual hypnotherapy takes place in the comfort of my practice. Individual sessions are ideally held once a week.

Hypnotherapy and other techniques may be able to help you increase your feelings of wellbeing in situations which cause you stress. There are no guarantees, and I do not offer a quick fix, but hypnotherapy is not a long term process. I hope we can work together to achieve what you desire and to give you techniques which you can take with you wherever you go.

I will be honest with you, so please be honest with me and let me know if something is not working for you, so that we can do something else.

What is hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a way of helping people to feel very relaxed and to respond to suggestions and ideas that are going to help them. Hypnosis is a natural state of heightened awareness, where you are able to open your mind to beneficial suggestions and where you can make use of your imagination to help make positive changes in your life. It is not the same as being asleep. Hypnosis is like the natural trance state experienced by everyone at various stages throughout the day – have you ever wondered at the end of a car journey exactly how you got there or drifted off into a day dream during a boring conversation or lecture, what about the very relaxed feeling just before waking up or going to sleep when your mind is alert but your body might be reluctant to move? It is not like stage hypnosis - at no time will you lose control.  Most people are fully aware whilst experiencing a very pleasant feeling of relaxation.

Like the tip of the iceberg, the conscious mind is only aware of and can only control a small part of what has been stored in the unconscious over the years.  The unconscious part of the mind is the place where memories, feelings everything that has ever happened to you are stored, everything that has been learned so thoroughly that it has become automatic including good and bad habits and anxieties etc. By means of hypnosis it is possible to gain access to the deeper recesses of the mind and make changes, improvements – change habits of being tense and worried into habits of being calm and relaxed, perhaps.

Does your heart race or stomach churn when you think about things that concern you? Though these responses may seem automatic and out of your conscious control, hypnotherapy and other techniques may be able to help you increase your feelings of wellbeing in situations which cause you stress.
